Public Awareness Campaign on ‘Mercury Free Dentistry: The NEED of HOUR’ On 28 February 2016, at Janpath, Bhubaneswar, India.

‘Raahgiri’ is a street event which is being organised in various cities in India including Bhubaneswar to promote car-free and pollution-free streets, and to celebrate the spirit of togetherness and joy. It was decided by the National Alliance for Mercury Free Dentistry in its last meeting held on 21 February 2016 to participate in this successful event ‘Raahgiri’ on 28 February 2016 and to use the opportunity to sensitize the population about the ill effect of MERCURY AMALGAM as a filling material and educate the common people on the safer and environment friendly substitute to MERCURY amalgam.

On 28 February 2016, about 10 young dentists, 4 professors and HoDs, 2 dental surgeons along with a group of volunteers joined the National Alliance Team Members for this campaign. It was started at 7 AM and continued till 9.30 AM. The honorable Mayor of Bhubaneswar City along with the Shri Priyadarshi Mishra, Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA, Bhubaneswar) of Odisha supported this campaign by visiting and spending some time with the dental surgeons and the team members. He addressed general public about the initiative taken by the National Alliance and committed the full support of the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation. The Hon’ble MLA promised to raise this important health and environment issue in the legislative forum. More than 20,000 walk through the place and showed keen interest about the initiative and volunteer to help in propagating this cause. Queries about the mercury amalgam and its side effect were raised by the visiting people aptly addressed by the team members along with the experts.
