On 9th March 2021, Center for Environmental Justice – CEJ organized a round table meeting on ‘Mercury Free Dentistry in Sri Lanka’. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the progress on “Dental Amalgam in Sri Lanka”, to discuss policy decisions of Mercury amalgam phase out, to discuss the possibilities in eliminating the use of dental amalgam in school sector and to encourage using alternatives to dental amalgam.
Dr. Ananda Jayalal, Deputy Director General, Dental Service, Ministry Of Health; Dr. Piyumi Rathuwela, Medical Supply Division, Ministry of Health; B.L.D. Balasooriya, Director, Agricultural and Environmental Studies Branch, Ministry of Education; Dr. Sonali Ranathunga, Vice President, College of Dentistry and Stomatology of Sri Lanka; Dr. Vipula Wickramasinghe, Secretary, Sri Lanka Dental Association; Dr. Nilantha Rathnayake, Consultant Dental Surgeon (Health Ministry) Sri Lanka Dental Association along with many other dental surgeons, therapists, directors of institutions were present at the meeting.
