On 29th November, 2015; A consultative meeting on “Mercury Free Dentistry: Odisha a Model State in India” was organized by the National Alliance for Mercury Free Dentistry (initiated by OSVSWA) at Hotel Suryansh, Bhubaneswar. The meeting was presided over by its National Convener Dr. G S Patnaik. The broad agenda for this meeting was to bring a white paper on the present scenario on Mercury Poisoning following usage of mercury amalgam in the state and country. The white paper aptly called the “Bhubaneswar Declaration” would be a signature document highlighting the commitments from the various stakeholders i.e. the dental practitioners, the policy makers, civil society members and academicians. The ultimate goal is to create awareness on mercury poisoning using dental amalgam and consequently initiating a process of changes in dental curriculum so that the desired action plan of phasing out of mercury from the shelves of dental practitioners is achieved.
