Major breakthrough at the BRS COPs: Parties have agreed to eliminate three forever chemicals. BRS Executive Secretary Rolph Payet highlighted that “this week, during the 11th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Stockholm Convention, Parties have reached agreement to eliminate the use of three forever chemicals, namely the pesticide methoxychlor and the industrial chemicals dechlorane plus and UV-328, thus accelerating action to meet the objective of the convention to protect human health and the environment”. On Friday, the BRS Executive Secretary joined Deputy Executive Secretary Carlos Martin-Novella at the Closing Ceremony of the PCB Fair, where Rolph Payet expressed gratitude to all the booth participants for their commitment, and thanked donors for their continued support to developing countries in meeting the targets. The Fair, which took place from 3 to 5 May, aimed to raise awareness on the urgency to meet the 2025 and 2028 PCB deadlines under the Stockholm Convention. Many of the booths showcased will continue to be displayed in the exhibition area throughout the second week of the BRS COPs and can also be accessed online via the virtual platform.
